The Department of Metallurgy is part of the Higher School of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology. The department is graduating, organized in 2011 on the basis of the decision of the University Council (order No. 210 of 09/05/11).
The preparation of bachelors, masters and PhDs is carried out by 1 doctor of technical sciences, 4 candidates of technical sciences, 1 master, 2 senior teachers without a degree. Scientists and leading specialists - production workers in the field of metallurgy are involved in the educational process.
The Department of Metallurgy has 8 classrooms with a total area of 254.9 m2, which is 2.4 m2 per student, incl. 3 classrooms are laboratories intended for the preparation of bachelors, masters and PhD doctors - 101A, 102A, 106A; lecture rooms - 120A, 111A; office of the head of the department -104A; teaching -110A, 114A, preparatory - 116A.
The list of specialties for which training is carried out:
- bachelors of the specialty 5B070900 - "Metallurgy";
- bachelors of the educational program 6В07220 - "Metallurgy";
- masters of the educational program 7M07222 - "Metallurgy";
- Phd doctoral students of the educational program 8D07220 - "Metallurgy".
Training of bachelors, masters and PhDs is carried out according to curricula agreed with employers, including a large ferrous metallurgy enterprise in the south of Kazakhstan, Ferrum-Vtor LLP.
In 2014, as an experimental project, the department introduced dual training on the basis of Ferrum-Vtor LLP in the specialty 5B070900 - Metallurgy, which improves the practical training of bachelor graduates with a focus on the future place of work. In the 2020-2021 academic year, a new contract was drawn up with the Shymkent Temir LLP plant in order to continue experimental training in a dual form.
In the 2021-2022 academic year, 91 full-time students and 80 distance learning students study at the department in the specialty 5B070900 - Metallurgy and EP 6B07220 - Metallurgy, including 73 students on educational grants and 98 students on a commercial basis.
Since the 2014 - 2015 academic year, the department has been preparing undergraduates in the profile and scientific and pedagogical direction. In the 2021-2022 academic year, 2 undergraduates in the scientific and pedagogical direction of training are studying in the master's program in OP7M07222- "Metallurgy".
In 2020, the Department of Metallurgy developed and operates an innovative educational program 8D07220 - "Metallurgy" for doctoral students in the direction of preparation 8D072 - "Industrial and manufacturing industries". Currently, 5 doctoral students are studying in doctoral studies in EP 8D07220 - "Metallurgy", of which 3 doctoral students are studying in the 2nd year and 2 doctoral students in the 1st year.
In 2018, in the specialty 5B070900 - Metallurgy (bachelor's), and in 2017, in the specialty 6M070900 - Metallurgy (master's), they successfully passed the national accreditation of IQAA.
