Higher School “Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology” is the founder of specialist training at the university, it has been operating since the university was founded in 1943. Currently, fundamental and applied research is being carried out at the Higher School in the areas of modern chemistry and chemical technology, ecology, biotechnology, petrochemistry, inorganic and organic substances, silicate materials and products, metallurgy and pharmaceutical industries, in which the teaching staff, doctoral and master degree students, and bachelors participate.
Higher school includes 5 departments: “Technology of inorganic and petrochemical productions”, “Technology of silicates and metallurgy”, “Biotechnology”, “Ecology”, “Chemistry and pharmaceutical engineering”. At the present time, the teaching staff of the higher school has more than 120 teachers, among them 17 doctors of science, 27 professors, 57 candidates of science, 10 PhD and 37 masters of science; 56 teachers are holders of the title “The best university teacher of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
The Higher School contingent is more than 1200 students; 50-60% of them study on the basis of a state educational grant. Scientists and employers from relevant industries also take part in the training of students. The Higher School teaching staff, master and PhD students undergo internships at leading universities and research centers. During its existence, the Higher School has trained more than 12 thousand specialists in various sectors of the national economy. They work in research institutions, in relevant industries, in the system of higher and secondary education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as in scientific centers near and far abroad. Among the graduates there are statesmen and public figures, as well as businessmen who are employers of current graduates and actively participate in the development of educational programs, continuous practical training of the students, and provide practice bases.
International cooperation with leading world scientific centers and universities is actively carried out in the Higher School. Due to the academic mobility programs, students study at foreign universities and, as a result of their successful completion of the training program, receive a double diploma. All teachers and students of Higher School are constantly improving their knowledge of foreign languages; English language student groups have been created for all of the educational programs. Annually, scientists from leading foreign universities give lectures and conduct master classes for students on modern scientific areas.
Our students are engaged in scientific research and have the opportunity to travel abroad at foreign conferences with scientific reports or participate in international competitions of scientific projects.
