The history of the Department of Chemistry begins in 1949. During the reorganization of the university structure in 2014, the Department of Chemistry was merged with the Department of Nanotechnology and transformed into the Department of Chemistry. Well-known scientists were involved in the pedagogical and scientific work of the department. The Department of Chemistry has been recognized for many years as an experienced, educated and advanced department of the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology.
The Department of Chemistry became a part of the Higher School of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology reorganized in 2014. The Department of Chemistry has trained specialists in very important and prestigious educational programs 6B05320-Chemistry, 6B07270-Pharmaceutical Production Technology, 6B05340 - Chemical, forensic and environmental expertise.
Specialty Chemistry, specialization "chemical, forensic and environmental expertise" received the certificate of the international accreditation agency ASIIN, certificate of state accreditation (series A, No.00000042), certificate of international accreditation dated 21.07.08, issued by the agency "ASIIN", as a result of which it was possible to open a master's degree department in the specialties 7M05320-Chemistry and 7M07270-Pharmaceutical Technology production and trains specialists in these educational programs.
In 2019, a license was obtained to train specialists in the educational program 6B07270-pharmaceutical production technology. In 2020, 7M07270-pharmaceutical production technology was opened. In 2022, OP 6B05340-Chemical, forensic and environmental expertise was added to the register of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In September 2022, the Department of "Fundamentals of Chemistry and Chemical Technology" was renamed the Department of "Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Engineering" by the decision of the Academic Council of the University.
Currently, the department is headed by PhD, associate professor Ermekov S. R.
The department teaches 4 doctors of Sciences, 3 professors, 15 candidates of sciences, 2 PhD doctors, 1 master, 9 senior teachers and 8 teachers.
To conduct the educational process, the department has the necessary technical base of educational and methodological materials. The department has laboratories "General Chemistry", "Inorganic Chemistry", "Organic Chemistry", "Analytical Chemistry", "Colloidal Chemistry", "Physical Chemistry", "Technological processes and devices", "General Chemical Technology". All disciplines are conducted in Kazakh, Russian, and English.
The total area of the Department of Chemistry and HTN is 663.75 sq. m. Of which 81.75 square meters are 4 lecture halls and 473.25 square meters are 10 laboratories. They are equipped with modern laboratory devices: I-160 MI laboratory ionomer, electronic analytical scales and analytical scales RA-214 "Ohaus", centrifuge Liston C 2204, microscope Biomed-2, refractometer 454B 2M, drying cabinets, muffle furnaces, aquadistillator, orbital shaker, interactive whiteboards, computers, etc.
Auditorium 307a and laboratories 403a, 407a are equipped with an interactive whiteboard. In order to conduct classes in an interactive way, familiarization with virtual laboratory work, showing video lectures, viewing e-books, demonstrating presentation materials, displaying multimedia files on a large screen are widely used.
407a-laboratory named after academician Z. Moldakhmetov. The interactive whiteboard was obtained as part of the Tempus project. Project manager: PhD, Professor S. P. Nazarbekova
